One actress, a multitude of heroines
With Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany delivered one of the most dizzying performances in television history: she plays more than a dozen clones — streetwise Sarah, scientist Cosima, suburban mum Alison, killer Helena — each so distinct you forget a single actress plays them all. The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama crowned the tour de force in 2016.
The series, which questions the ownership of women's bodies in the age of biotechnology, became a cult phenomenon; its rallying cry, the “Clone Club”, celebrates sisterhood. Tatiana Maslany went on to join the Marvel universe as the lawyer-heroine of She-Hulk, while continuing to speak up for fairness in her industry.
In 2023, fans around the world, voting online, awarded her the “Science Fiction” trophy of the World Women Heroes Awards — to an actress who is, single-handedly, a whole army of heroines.
